Raleigh Among the Nation’s Fastest Growing Cities

With over 26,000 new residents giving the city of Raleigh a 2.2 percent gain in population this year and a rapidly declining unemployment rate due to its plentiful job opportunities, the city was named in a CNN poll as one of the United States “Top 10 Fastest Growing Cities.’

Pointing to the vast employment opportunities with the tech companies in the Research Triangle area and the university’s located in and around the surrounding Raleigh area, the CNN piece explained that the number of people hired was on the rise and that as of January 2014 the city’s unemployment rate had dropped two full percentage points in just one year. The income generated through these jobs also on average are nearly 20 percent higher than the national average, and that coupled with Raleigh’s affordable housing rates also played into its inclusion on the list.
