Time.com’s “Money” section recently compiled its 2014 list of the top fifty cities in the United States ranging in population from 50,000-300,000 to reside, showing that your choice to buy or build your dream home right here in Wake County was the right one, ranking Cary among the “Best Places to Live.”
Starting out with nearly 800 U.S. cities which fit the demographic in which they were ranking, Time narrowed their list down to the top fifty, putting Cary at number 19. Basing their research on compiling data on each of the towns’ local economy, housing market, schools, and healthcare among another 45 plus factors they analyzed, Cary placed tops among any North Carolina cities in the rankings. After all results were completed, they even sent reporters out to visit each place in the top 35, to see the communities first hand.
Specifically speaking of why Cary was ranked in the top twenty, time.com first spoke of location, “In the heart of North Carolina’s Triangle region, Cary is sitting pretty. Raleigh, the state capitol, and high-tech hub Research Triangle Park are a few minutes’ commute away; Cary itself is headquarters to mega-software maker SAS Institute.” The article went on to say, “Cary’s small downtown …offers easy access to the restaurants, cultural activities and sporting events happening daily in Raleigh, as well as the higher-ed hubs of Duke University, University of Noundefinedrth Carolina and North Carolina State.”
Noting that its beautiful scenery and diversity also played into Cary being number nineteen, the piece also detailed, “Cary covers 55 square miles, but with forested hills and tree-lined streets, it avoids feeling like a concrete sprawl. There’s a wide range of housing choices, and diversity too–14% of Cary’s population is foreign-born, and that number is increasing.”
